Youth Civic Engagement Assistant

PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

To address the vulnerabilities and risks that youth in Jordan currently face, Mercy Corps Youth Program in partnership with selected Jordanian civil society organizations is implementing two projects:

  1.   “Youth Advancement for a Peaceful and Productive Tomorrow”:

The Youth Advancement for a Peaceful and Productive Tomorrow (Peace-Pro) project incorporates a multifaceted approach to address the needs of Syrian and Jordanian youth. Supporting a) establishment of a media-focused youth civic engagement platform; b) set-up of parenting forums; and c) support for outdoor programming and activities that engage youth and community members. Delivery of the project will be in partnership with the Hakaya Center, a local CBO partner based in Irbid and Mafraq with a strong track record in community mobilization, youth civic engagement and media.

  1. “Nubader: Advancing Adolescents and Youth in Jordan”:

Mercy Corps GAC IHA “Nubader” Project is a psychosocial support model to support young people to develop empathy and resilience in response to their needs. The project is implemented through youth and adolescent friendly spaces (AFS) referred to as Community Action Hubs (“Hubs”) across three governorates in Jordan. The Hubs are multidisciplinary and multifaceted resource centers for youth, parents/caregivers, and for the community at large with the aim to facilitate access to educational, psychosocial, community-engagement, protection, and recreational services and opportunities.

A key component of the program is the integration of youth civic engagement platform in Community Action Hubs.

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

Youth Civic Engagement Assistant will provide support to the implementation of the two projects under MC Youth Programs mentioned above. He/She will work closely with program partnering organizations in the field to support/facilitate youth civic engagement platforms at the community action hubs through working with coaches/ activators as well as program teams and building their capacities to lead the platforms’ daily activities ensuring timely and quality implementation to meet compliance requirements of Mercy Corps and donor rules and regulations.  The Youth Civic Engagement Assistant will support the Youth Civic Engagement Coordinator in all aspects of the project’s implementation, as required, to ensure that it meets its key deliverables on-time and within budget, as well as working closely with interns.

He/She will is expected to be able to conduct the full range of activities described in this scope of work, and capacity to undertake other complementary activities, will be favored.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Support youth civic engagement coordinator in ensuring that all platform teams in the CBO develop and implement platform activities within their work plans and that they are in-line with the strategic project plan/log frame
  2. Assist in providing  technical guidance and support to platform teams in the CBO to conduct activities and events using illustrative tools such as audio- visual including and limited to filmmaking, photography, print advertising, radio, website, and other forms of electronic communications.
  3. Assist CBO platform teams in production of Youth Civic Engagement campaigns, community service campaigns, and community projects on governorate and national levels, including set up of required templates. In collaboration with community engagement coordinator.
  4. Assist in raising PRs and follow up with MC procurement department on contracts, delivery of goods and services and payment requests.
  5. Support in Supervising Technology, Media and the Civic Engagement  clubs as main physical elements for the advocacy platform and support CBO youth civic engagement platform team in leading its activities for young adults and their families.
  6. Contribute to  capacity building and mentoring opportunities wither offline or online through linking with verity of available platforms/ service providers through the community engagement, as required   
  7. Support Youth Civic Engagement platform team efforts and provide guidance in set-up and operation of campaigns pages on social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc), and local media engagement ensuring it’s in compliance with internal/donor regulations.
  8. Work closely with Youth Civic Engagementteam  to explore ways of improving communications and coordination within the Civic Engagement platform across Jordan.
  9. Assist in  daily follow up on activities of the Youth Civic Engagement platform, including schedule and delivery of civic participation, psycho-social and self-expression activities.
  10. Contribute to the check in visits schedule and conduct frequent visits to ensure that activities are being conducted as per Mercy Corps and donor regulations 
  11. In cooperation with youth civic engagement coordinator and platform focal points  follow up on joint young adults meetings, community service campaigns identification and implementation and provide support to field team.
  12. Assist in overseeing and providing guidance to Civic Engagement platform team in hosting communities on as needed basis.
  13. Support youth civic engagement team  to ensure proper  documentation for project activities through:
    1. Maintaining a comprehensive and an updated minutes of meeting . .
    2. .
    3. Following up to ensure timely and accurate attendance data recording and collection.
    4. Supporting with documentation, project data, lessons learnt and best practices for internal and external sharing.
    5. Prepare weekly updates and support in conducting monthly progress reports, including challenges and recommendations
  14. Ensure safety and security of young adults’ and program teams safe spaces enforcing Mercy Corps security protocols.
  15. Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: -

REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Youth Civic Engagement Program Coordinator  

WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: Youth Civic Engagement team across sites, Mercy Corps Filed officers and Nubader Program team

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • University degree in Media, Visual arts, social work or other related field
  • Demonstrated skills in advocacy and civic participation and media literacy.
  • At least 1 years of experience performing required tasks in a complex emergency or relief context
  • Outstanding knowledge of print, web, graphics and email dissemination is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, take initiative and willingness to learn.
  • Experience in project implementation and support of emergency, youth, education programs
  • Good writing skills, including reports, best practices, cases studies, etc.
  • Good in both Arabic and English
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong proficiency in Technology/ Media tools for self and creative expression
